Post Does anybody here run a tach on their Zuma 50?
I'm curious what kind of RPMS you're pulling either dead stock or with a 70 BBK and pipe.

I have a suspect ACEWELL tach that has a wire you wrap around the ignition coil lead. I notice that if the rubber insulation is thick where the wire is attached.......the tach reads idle at 1700 minimum. If the wire is wrapped around a thinner part of the ignition lead ...it will read 300 rpm higher...or 2100 at idle.

Maximuim revs is see on this tach is 10,300 RPM downhill. It won't pull higher.

Has anybody seen a Zuma 50 with a stock crank rev past 10.3 ??? I'm guessing the real top RPM on a stock crank is 9500 to 9700.

If you run a tach on your ZUMA 50.....post up your IDLE and maximum RPMS.
THANKS

I think my tach goes up to 14K. I run at about 12-13K. My scooter doesn't even move until I hit 8K

Don't know what I idle it. I took out the battery so the tach doesn't work unless the motor's churnin.

That doesn't sound right at all.

What kind of tach is it and how do you have it hooked up please.

I was looking into the Acewell 3950 Series myself Canyondancer.

Feels like riding blind when I don't have an RPM gauge.

Which idle is more accurate 1700 or 2k

I find it really tough to tune the trans without a tach. If you do buy that ACEWELL .....the yellow wire is for the tach. Run the yellow dirctly to the positive lead on the coil. That works better than wrapping the wire around the spark lead. The most i've seen on my tach is 10,300 with the stock gearing. I can only pull 8700 now with the up gears.

Which idle is more accurate 1700 or 2k

Idle - 1800-2200 rpm, depending on ambient temperature and my Zuma's mood
Stock clutch engagement - 3600 rpm
40 mph - 8800 rpm

this is on a stock 04

I just adjusted my idle to run at 1850 after a four minute warm-up. I wrapped the coil about 2 inches from the top of spark plug cap. I don't have it mounted so I can't tell you how high it goes.

I'll have to take it on the road and see.

Still trying to locate a gauge that I like, but I'll post when I get one installed.

I hooked up the tach today to see what's going on. Temp. was 72, so a perfect day for the engine.

I ride a 2008 Zuma 50 stock except for throttle mod.

Idle is about 1850.

At 42 mph, flat grade, more or less, it got up to 8500 rpm and I thought it was still climbing, but I ran out of real estate.

Uphill, it never got over 7100 rpm. Does that make sense?

My current partial setup.

2008 Zuma
70bbk
12k crank
17.5mm carb
Leo ZX
6g rollers
OEM belt
Malossi 2000 Multi
Red Contra

Idle = 1855
Under Acceleration = 9130
Top RPM at 60 mph (GPS) 9520

I will post back when I install the racing carb and exhaust and put 4g rollers in

i can get up to 10000 rpm at not even half throttle i havent tried going over that. my idle is about 2500 and 3000 rpm. any lower on the air screw and it wont idle. would a leak in the exhaust cause this? would the rollers weights cause this? would the engine not being broken in cause this? ive been trying to get it to idle lower yesterday and today. no luck. i love my tach everyone should get one

Not trying to give you a hard time...but your "new" tach is junk. If it won't idle lower than 2500....the tach is not accurate. Half throttle at 10k with a cast iron 70 can't be done. The tach is junk.
