It's that easy! A small fraction of a second and your story is over and maybe you'll make the evening news.

People really need to grow a fulking brain and wear a full faced helmet!

Simple Quiz:

1. Is your helmet securely fasened at all times while riding?
2. Do you use a leather motorcycle jacket?
3. Do you use riding gloves?
4. Do you ride with boots?
5. Do you have auto insurance?
6. Do you have a technique that you can use when a crash is inevitable?

Just some thoughts for the road! Be safe out there.

I'm all for wearing a helmet.....but when you pull out in front of a car on a scooter......they don't make a helmet good enough to prevent you from dying.

This guy was a loser who made a career out of bad decisions.

QUOTE
Court records indicate Welter led a troubled life, with numerous arrests for trespassing, criminal mischief and assault stretching back to 1999. UNQUOTE

I've been riding 46 straight years. Riding and surviving is not about the gear you wear or don't wear. It's about the decisions you make while riding.

This guy didn't die because he wasn't wearing a helmet. He died because he kept on making bad decisions.

People in cars are out to get us for sure. I get honked at, yelled at, or almost flatened on the daily by some dumbass that's not paying attention or can't deal with the fact that lane sharing is legal.

You experience that daily!

Be careful out there! Don't take any risks at intersections.

Post Re: It Can and Will Happen! Are you Prepared?
I have personally met the man in question Carl from Boulder. During some of the local Sportique Scooter rides held up there he would often show up drunk. He often joked about how he was a recovering alcoholic and the best way to recover was to have a couple shots every day............

I didn't read anything in the report about being under the influence but I don't believe the entire story is written here. It was so bad that often people would steal his keys from his scooter so he couldn't go on the rides or just simply call the Police.

It's a shame really, but as CD said, it's all about the decisions you make while on the road or before you go on the road. Yes safety gear helps but the state of your brain and choices you make are more important and seem to be lacking in many people.

I doubt it. We see a lot of Florida plates here in Austin. (?) If they're better drivers they sure don't show it while they're here.

Absolutely. When I taught my son to ride I stressed to him to ride as if every other driver out there is out to kill you.

While lane sharing/lane splitting is legal in California, it sure as hell isn't safe. For my own safety, I wouldn't do it. Just need one trump to move his vehicle a little or open his door when he sees you coming in the side view.

Word.

There are two ways to lane split/share ,the smart way(only pass cars stopped at a light), and the crazy idiodic way(50MPH passing cars in a 30MPH zone) One of the main reasons for getting this scoot initially was I FUCKING HATE TRAFFIC. It makes me crazy and claustrophobic. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we're all packed in like sardines, and everyone seemingly needs to go the same direction all at once. I split lanes at stop lights to get to the front of the line, that's it, which is better than all the bicyclists that don't stop at lights or stop signs here. If traffic is moving, I go with the flow. You can ride safely, utilize the benifits of a 2 wheeled vehicle, like lane sharing, just PAY ATTENTION and realize nobody can see you for some reason. It's like being the Invisible Man :q:
