scooters and mods: 2005 Zuma 50 Athena muffler, dual headlights are only mods
Post WI - HI IM NEW AND GOT A ZUMA50 2005
Hey everyone! Just picked up a 2005 Zuma 50. Nothing has been modded on it except the exhaust. It says Athena on the side. Zuma runs out about 42-43mph. Sometimes it will get up there quick, other times it will take forever to get there. It's got 1950 mi. on it. Any suggestions where to start to keep it fast, reliable, and last a long time?

Hell if I still lived out by Harpts lake I would say bring it over but I live near the dells now

First start with a good once over of the bike any rubber product tire belt hoses that’s more then 5byears old should be replaced if you don’t know replace it

Belt only use genuine oem Yamaha belt

Change the plunge every 3000 miles as well as the trans oil 1/2 cup is all it takes

There’s also a really good “how too” thread about servicing the clutch pulley and bearings. Highly recommend doing it and it’s really very easy

scooters and mods: '03 yellow Zuma with Malossi 70 cc, rejetted stock carb and stock exhaust.
Post Re: Newb with a 2005 and questions
I highly recommend a Malossi cast iron 70cc cylinder. I have over 13 thousand miles on mine. I would think that whoever put the exhaust on compensated with either a rejet or different carb but I would check.

Enjoy!

Hello, my wife and I will be getting one, the same year as yours. I can't wait to ride it around.

Post Re: WI - HI IM NEW AND GOT A ZUMA50 2005
Just got a 2006 BWS / Zuma (I'm in Canada) and it has a LeoVince exhaust on it. PO tells me that it will take him steadily at 45mph and he's 6'4" and 260 lb. Is there a way to find out if the PO before him did a big bore kit on it? I'm bringing it home Friday and figure to look at the belt and see if the variator has been swapped out or whether the rollers have been changed out for Dr Pulleys. But don't know how (or if) I can see if there's been a cylinder upgrade.

My other question right now is what kind of % grade can I expect this to handle at 30mph carrying a 140 lb rider (me) and how long before it bogs down? Will determine how I get it home! Drive the RV with the motorcyle hitch carrier or ride it the 1 mile up a 7% grade in traffic :)

Thanks. Looking forward to this.

Post Re: WI - HI IM NEW AND GOT A ZUMA50 2005
Hi neighbor
I have a newly purchased 2004 zuma . with about 2500 miles on it and 2 vinos with 2000 miles on them .
The vinos i just derestricted exhaust and variator and upjetted the carbs.
I have just started to modify the zuma .
MY first bit of advice go through the routine maintainance list and make sure that your zuma is right .
Al 3 of my scoots really need a good once over .
The gear oil in all 3 was really ugly.
Just installed dual headlight mod on zuma .
For performance I have decided to go exhaust /Carb Upjet and then rebalnce the variator if needed to exhaust.
Have a malossi wild lion exhaust on the way.
Winter Project /Late fall project is a BBK .
Have not decided which one yet.
