Post How many miles will a Zuma get before dying?
To start, hello all, I'm considering getting a Zuma to have a practical vehicle to save gas with to get from place to place around town and to and from work (I work a mile away, everywhere else I go is close as well) and I was wondering, how many miles will this scooter get before going down the drain?

11500 miles + viewtopic.php?f=55&t=16183

Life expectancy of Zuma viewtopic.php?f=47&t=14867&hilit=+will+last

Nobody has worn out a chassis and engine case yet, so its anybodies guess

Thanks for the response guy! however, looking at the links you gave me, I'm seeing alot of 30-50k claims by them, they're riding 125 I beleive, is it that much a difference, 11.5k to 30k amping up to 125cc? Is the motor that weak on the 49cc? Realistically I'm looking into a 49cc for the mpg and the lack of necessity in a motorcycle license, however, would it be better if I spent the 100 or w/e it costs to get a different license and amp up the CC? Does 125cc cost significantly more than 49cc? Sorry for all the questions, but you seemed rather specific on the lifetime of the 49cc model, just tryinta make sure it's worth it, y'know?

Go to the official Yamaha home page, you can find all the specifics there. MPG, cost, and features. Don't let anybody influence your decision. Its your scoot, tailor it to your needs. Just don't have false expectations such as getting MPG and MPH. You can't have both. Hope this helps.

It isn't the size of the motor that makes the difference. The 50cc is a two-stroke and the 125cc a four-stroke. The 125 is faster and gets better gas mileage, but requires more maintenance. Oil changes, valve adjustments etc. Of course the 125 costs more as well. Depending on what state you live in the 125 may require a motorcycle license while the 50 may just require a moped license or possibly none at all.

At least in my area:

brand new z50 = $2400
brand new z125 = $3200

Then, factor in monthly insurance. I think the 50 is usually the better investment overall. You have plenty of options open to you for modifications that will get plenty of speed, that will probably cost less than a 125. All the moreso less if you get a used 50 in good shape.

As for the life span of the z50, the same basic concepts apply. Take care of it, keep it well maintained, and it'll last you a long time.

Post Re: How many miles will a Zuma get before dying?
I've owned both the 50 and the 125 for my 3 mile commute and general traveling around. Within months of having the 50, and as much fun as it is, I was looking to upgrade. I got the 125 about 15 months after the original purchase. My brand new 2009 Z125 in September 2010 was $2,450 OTD.

I think gas prices were going down at that time, sales were slowing for the 2009 and the 2011s were about ready to come out, so Yamaha put a $500 rebate on the 2009 125.

I keep the engine stock and I've never looked back. I like the fact that I can now go on the interstate for short stints and I can take it on longer trips on the group rides without holding everyone else to 40 mph.

I bought my '03 Zuma used, and it was an abused stage 1 (do not know at what mileage P/O upgraded), but the odo read 15,XXX miles plus before I started modding. Piston/cylinder still had more life in them too!

My 06 has 14K on the odo and 17K when i put in my 70cc kit.
the stock cylinder and piston looked fine when i took it out. it still had ALOT of life out of it. at least 10 000kms.
