Post YAMAHA ZUMA 50 - Top Speed (BBK to Gears) w Stock Muffler
Getting close to finalizing my partslist for this upgade, Though i would get some final opinions and post updates for future modders. Current setup is 09 with throttle mod and only at 4000km. trying to get close to 80km/h and also in hilly area and at sea level.

How is ring gap adjustment done, havn't found to many threads on the topic?

I am also looking to get two sets of weights for tuning, but i dont understand all the sizes listed?

I have read these carbon fiber reeds can sometimes leave a gap, recomendations? also nervous about screw coming loose, do you guys use red or blue locktite?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I haven't had issues not using lock titer
Have never worried about ring gap I mean it's got to be at least .006 inches put the rings in the bore square them up and check if you are worried but dot catch them on any of the ports putting them in or getting them out
if you really want to worry about that then squish and port timings

Roller sizes if using the stock varatior will be 15x12 then the grams you want the first numbers are the physical sizes

OK thank you,

Another thing that is unclear is a/f screw tuning along with pilot jet.

If I keep the stock pilot jet am I still going to be between .5 and 2 turns on AF screw? or will 46 Pilot keep me more in that range? Don't want to be too lean and also at sea level...

Was also wondering if 82 main jet is better since I am stock muffler? Then again I am at seas level...

These are only instructions I could find on Zuma forums
""as for the af screw with it running and warmed up
turn it in gently and then keep turning it out till you hear the revs drop then go back in 1/4 to 1/2 turn
then what you need to do is count how many turns it takes to put it all the way in again and return it to where you had it set
less then 1 turn out you need a smaller pj more then 2 turns out go up with your pj""

P.s...Good video are carb tuning.

Can't say what is going to be best
Every kit is a little diffrent humidity of where you live plays into jetting if your squish is a little tighter then the next guys you will need diffrent jetting
This is why we tune and we recommend you get multiple jets

That's spot on about tuning the af you have to tune the af to know if you need a diffrent pj

K thanks. So then, what do you tune to know what main jet is better. Is that done with plug chop or other?

I'm running a Malossi cast iron 70cc with the stock exhaust, 46 pilot, 82 main and the needle raised one notch for about 10,000 miles with zero problems, and throttle response is perfect. I'm interested to see how the Athena gears work out for you. Mine accelerates really well but I wouldn't mind a couple more MPH up top.

Im getting about 70 kph.41mph. with my setup, i just ordered an Ncy secondary slider sheave the other day :q:
We will see how much difference a worn out curve td compares to a aftermarket straight groove one...

Never heard of Secondary slider sheave, sounds interesting..

Screamingyellow, It would be nice to try setup without gearing first, but seems like unneeded tuning. Hoping to order parts soon, will post results when time comes.

My question now is what weight range should i buy? 2, 3, 4 sets? What weight combinations should i buy?

Will these work in stock variator? They say long life and are cheaper?

Using the stock exhaust, I doubt you'll need different weights. The clutch and belt on mine are stock and OEM. 0-40 acceleration is excellent (it jumps off the line really well), but right about 44 or 5 it starts to round off. I look forward to your results :)

Since I am changing torque spring Im going to need some heavier weights. Guess I will order a few. Am in very hilly area so harder torque spring is desirable.

Does anyone know what piston ring gap should be on new 70cc ?

I believe minimum is is .005" or .15mm, same as stock set up. On the Malossi kit the gap was .007" out of the box and it's been great for a long time.

Have you installed the parts yet? I am curious what kind of results you have gotten if so.

Post Re: Yamaha Zuma - Top Speed (BBK to Gears) w Stock Muffler
Hello Everyone... Here is a quick update... Better late than never...

Final speed on this build is hovering around 70km h. Not the speed i hoped for ... Take off is great though...

Next time i would order gasket for the gear cover and dont forget proper silicone for bottom gasket on jug. Also pressure test is a must IMO. The ring gap on Top Trophy was already perfect

THe medium spring i got was was to strong for even the heaviest rollers i got, i think 8-9gram. It will be replace on next round of parts..

The Reeds are a waste of time without the housing, So make sure to buy them one piece...

I am at sea level with jet pin on richest setting and #84 is too lean, having some overheating going up steep hills here. My dealer Doesnt have a #86, but the have #88 So i might try that.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

I have orderred the next round of parts and hope to make a new thread once i reach 80km/hr goal
