Post Re: 2004 Zuma 50 mph Daily Driver Stock with Stealthy Upgrad
I recently put boppers on my bike. Very happy with them. Have definitely been able to feel the improved grip on the road, and I whole heartedly recommend them. If I recall correctly, the Reggaes are basically the stock tires. Adequate, but that's it.

Just went over 300 miles on kit it is pushing 46-47 mph at 9200-9300 rpms so it has loosened up.
I am up about 2 mph since initial install.
9200 rpm is 46 mph
8800 rpm is 42 mph
7800 rpm is 37 mph
Next step are swapping exhaust to the next r to bring the rpms up.
and the new michelin boppers to replace stockers.
Then the next stage will be
The 2008 rear end just got here from boats .
So i will exchange that when i put on the athena gears 42/14 gears which will put me at 11 to 1 ratio .

Have to order extra parts .
When ordering the 2008 rear end .
You need to order the fixed sheeve ,the sliding sheeve. About 50 bucks
And one more part secondary spring seat It is a $6 part .
I had the clutch off and greased the new sheeves and the 2005 does not fit .
So i ordered the right part and will replace this week .
I regreased and replaced the old torque driver for now .

Upgrading gears and rear sheeve tomorrow since all the parts are here and my buddy is going to let me use his press at the shop.

Looking or better shifting from the new torque driver 2008 style and higher top speed from the gears .
Savings tires and pipe till later next week.

I have installed athena 14/42 .
I had to order a new gasket had a bad seal so wont hold the gear oil.
You need to have access to a bearing press to press the small gear on to the new gear.
We had to heat with a torch they are very tight tolerances.
2 12 packs of beer is what it cost me went all out bought Coors Light

Post Re: 2004 Zuma 50 mph Daily Driver
Gears are in
What a difference 11 to 1 ratio vs 14.4
9400 rpm is now 51 mph
9000 rpm is now 48 mph
8200 rpm is 44 mph
before gears
9200 rpm is 46 mph
8800 rpm is 42 mph
7800 rpm is 37 mph
It is windy today so i will not count the wind aided 54 mph run .
Have to drop weights in variator and i might have to take clutch springs up one notch .
Take off is noticeably slower it needs time to spin up.
The upgraded rear sheeve (torque Driver )is a nice upgrade no weird shift on take off no shft at all just even acceleration.

Post Re: 2004 Zuma 50 mph Daily Driver
Gears add a estimated 4-7 mph maybe more have to tune the trans to them .
changed back to stock contra withe 2008 torque driver .
Changing the contra moves the ideal weight range
Lighter contra neeed lighter weights to fight through it Heavier contra heavier weights .

Ran with 5.7 grams these are at the bottom end of the power band band and are doggy off line .
(Discovered clutch is shot)
Top end was low 50s wind aided
swapped in 4.9 grams acceleration is closer top speed is 50 ish .
I made a sharpie mark for the 4.9 to see how close it is to full belt travel .
Very windy day 17 mph so did not spend time dialing it down.
Tried to make some cross wind runs but was getting blown around .
Clutch springs need to be up higher the gears need a higher rpm take off .

Post Re: 2004 Zuma 50 mph Daily Driver
Based on the sharpie mark i went from less than 3 mm to more than 6 mm with the 4.9 grams .
So that is why the top end was a couple miles higher with the 5.7 grams
So will have to drift the weights up and use the stiffer clutch springs to have it spin up before take off .
I just want to get this close and try to get the pipe on tomorrow the wind is 3-6 mph tomorrow.
So i should be able to find a wind free tunnel to get a better tuning run.
The next r pipe liked light weights .
So I will have to tune for that .
I would like to get this one done except for tires so i can finish the tires on the one vino and kit the other one over the next 2 weekends .

Best intentions on tuning
I accidentally pulled the starter clutch and had to full rebuild that since a screw was frozen on the idler gear
Had to use grabit tools to get the rounded screw out.
A 20 minute roller swap became a 6 hour adventure to hunt down a fix and get the allan head bolts.
Had to replace belt stock one was getting down to below 15mm .
Had to go back to stock clutch the polini clutch is ignoring the spring tension and engages at 2k rpm.
The stock 2 shoe clutch with polini greens engages at 5000 to 5500 rpm.
With the starter in pieces i was very close to ordering a full overrange .
It just might have to be on th christmas list

Variator still needs work with new stock belt we are under 5mm.
Did not have a ton of time to dial it inwith the starter adventure clutch swap out .
5.1 grams on a wind free day
8700 rpms over 49 miles per hour
8100 rpms 42 miles per

I did some other runs at 5.4 and 5.7 but the clutch and belt were not replaced yet .

With a pipe and upgears I thought the weights had to be dropped slightly evermore. Firstly with an aftermarket pipe arent they all running around 4-5grams? Nonetheless, with an upgear it should be a slight decrease in weight from your original rollers. Reason being, some acceleration is lost on the bottom end and that drop in weight helps to counteract this and the upgears will help boost the top end slightly (even though lighter weights are in use). That is what I thought.

You are right the gears and pipe functions best in a lighter range .

Scoot without gears with bbk liked weights low 5s to low 6s 5.7 grams had best acceleration and belt travel.
was hitting 45 .

Gears 5.7 to 4.9 is the range was trying
5.4 or 5.1 were very close to same travel.

Just put pipe on started at 5.1 grams
Hit 52 mph at 9400 rpms with the next r
The pipe pulls hardest at 8000 + rpms .
Didn't have time to dial in transmission started raining.
Probably have a couple more mph to find there

I was thinking of getting a next r or a Giannelli Extra V2 for the scooter sometime when scootertuning decides to do a 10% off scale. How is the next r and would you recommend it? Is it a low revving pipe? (<9.5k rpms?)
