Post Upgrading a 2008 Yamaha Zuma 50cc
Hello--

I am getting a 2008 Yamaha Zuma 50cc on Friday, and I want to have it upgraded to go ~50 mph. I want it to be EXTREMEMLY reliable because I am not "handy" when it comes to repairing mopeds. This is what I am thinking of getting. Please let me know if I could achieve my goal without any of these items, or if I need other items. Thanks.

Upgrade List

Malossi MHR Multivar CVT Variator: $159
Leo Vince ZX Scooter Exhaust: $200
Malossi Sport Clutch Spring Set for Original or Delta Clutch: $22
Athena Drive Belt ZUMA: $35
Uni Filter Performance Airbox - Ø 38mm: $29
NGK Spark Plug (Which one? BR7HS, BR8HS, BR9HS?: $3
Arreche Main Jet - Size 80: $4
Michelin Reggae Tires (120/90-10 or 130/90-10?): $40
Malossi Yellow Super Reinforced Torque Spring: $13
Malossi 16x13 Variator Rollers (what weight?): $17

Extras:
Motul 710 2T Fully Synthetic Oil 1 Liter
Guardian Scooter Cover: $49
STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer Performance Improver: $7

Post Re: Upgrading a 2008 Yamaha Zuma 50cc
just get a new oem belt that is the best belt out there
dont fornicate with the airbox
oem main jet is an 80 and areeche isnt even the right brand of jet for a tk carb

the zx will come with needed clutch springs
5.5 gram rollers should be in the ball park

stabil is worthless it will cause more issues then its worth use seafoam instead

Plug for the stock bore is a bpr7hs

tires one of each the front is a 120 and the rear is a 130

and if you live in a state where the epa will come down on you hard have the recall taken care of before doing any of these mods

and you still wont hit 50 mph you will do about 45 unless you port the bore

Post Re: Upgrading a 2008 Yamaha Zuma 50cc
trans oil shoukd be changed every 1500 to 3000 miles

2 stroke oil added every week or 500 miles

a belt should last you 5000 to 8000 miles

check jdubby links on mss as i think they have the zx for less
If you are kitting it the plug will be an 8 or 9 depending upon the kit i may be blind as im still didnt see it in your links

if you are going to have a shop do it find out what there experiance is with moding 2 stroke scoots
and ask for refrences to scooters they have modded even if its a dealer ship
or find a guy that tunes scoots there are many of us on here that will do it for you for less then a stealership or help you thru it

ill look this over again when i get home and on a computer

OK thanks. And I wasn't planning on adding a BBK to the Zuma.

1) Would this setup still be fine without a BBK?
2) If not, which 70cc BBK would you recommend with my goals and other upgrades in mind?

BTW, I'M GETTING A 2003 YAMAHA ZUMA INSTEAD OF A 2008 YAMAHA ZUMA!

Post Re: Upgrading a 2008 Yamaha Zuma 50cc
I would not go with the Dellorto Carb unless you are adding a BBK, even then it is not needed. If you do need to upjet, because of the pipe, you could use a Daytona 85 or Teikei 82 or 84.

I would switch to a 3 shoe clutch with 107mm bell, before changing out the variator. The clutches on 2002 - 2005 Zumas are prone to failure when used with stiffer clutch springs. Also certain aftermarket torque/contra springs sometimes bind in that clutch.

I've heard many people say the don't notice much difference swapping out the variator untill you go to a BBK. I didn't add one until after a BBK, so I don't know if you will se a benefit of not.

The Zuma 50 Rear Fender w/Taillight & T/S is overpriced, as it is a simple DIY swap, with tutorials on this forum.

Remember the tuning weights are for tuning. Once you get the weight dialed in, get proper weights.

You may want to consider the 107mm '08+ clutch, it is cheaper than aftermarket.

Also, you don't need the throttle cable if you aren't switching to a new carb.
