Post HELP! Ran out of gas, now scooter won't start?
Please answer ASAP. I was riding on E, but the tank had quite a bit of gas. As I was riding to work, the scooter lost power. I open up the tank and I can see a small bit of gas still in there. So I got a ride and came back with a gas can, but now when I try to turn it on, it won't start up.

Any ideas on what's wrong and how to fix it?

You emptied out the carb so it might take a bit of time kicking it over to get gas back into the bowl.

The fuel petcock may have a bubble in it also, try tilting the bike when cranking.

Good luck buddy :)

Thanks a million! I was afraid I might have killed the motor because it didn't get oil.

I just want to clarify. So by crank, do you mean use the kick start?

Well if you have to keep running the electric starter 4 too long it will over heat. so if it dosn't start after 20 sec or so then give it a break and use the manual.

Don't worry about the oil, the pump runs off the crankshaft so if moter is turning then the oil is a pumping. :)

just keep kicking it and you will eventually pulse enough gas down to the carb

Also, if your electric start is in good condition, and your battery is charged up. Hold your finger over the exhaust (plug it) this will create a HUGE vac effect on the carb and help it prime...turn it over for about 10 seconds with your finger plugging the exhaust...it should try and start one time. Take your finger out...giver her hell and it should start. (I did this 2 weeks ago after it sat for 3 weeks...started up perfectly...Also, all the smoke that will come out after this IS normal...do it outside :) )

Thanks for this tip.

I ran out of gas tonight, one block from home, unfortunately that block is long and steep up hill. I pushed it home, filled it up, and couldn't start it until I read this tip. After covering the exhaust for a few seconds I got it to start right.

This must be going around, because by coincidence I ran out of gas one block from the gas station I was headed to yesterday. Same thing: I had to kick-start it.

Wow, some good tips. I have 3500 miles and have never ran out. I actually enjoy going to the gas station with the zuma, some times i stop at 1/2 tank and top off. :)

i always make a point to collect around 12 - 40 cents of change when i fill up :v:

i just hope i dont forget to add oil some time, i went for about 500 miles without adding oil (started with full tank) and it took about 1/2 quart. My buddy who filled it was like "you nearly ran out, dont ever do that again!"

but i told him that i drained my tank and its bigger than a quart, so 1/2 quart is around....1/2 tank?

1000miles to a quart sounds good, but now i just fill 'er up every time i get the buffing cloth or spray the tires with vinyl cleaner (like every time i go into the garage)

If memory serves me correctly the oil tank is 1.5 Quarts.

Same here. Ever since I first got a scooter I love to fill up. It takes me less than a minute and now I barely spend $2.00. It never gets old. :q:
