With the MVT inner rotor ignition system. Running dual headlights would slowly kill the battery. After running Dual Beams, you do not want to go back to single's. BUT....
If I rode City, for a few hour's. Riding with the added brakes & turn signal usage, it would in time. Slowly kill the Battery enough to start effecting the turn-signal's & Fuel Guage opperation would become inaccurate.

My idling volts were 12.3 - 12.7. Running it would reach 12.7 - 13.00 volts. After 1/2 hour driving. But it was a loosing proposition in the City.
The problem would be idling or city driving. I would use more power, than I produced and it would, eventually draw down the battery. This is with out, using any electric starting.
The LED'S use considerably less power. After running for a few minutes of running I am fully charged and idling at 12.9-13.0 Running on the road @ normal cruise 14.0 to 14.2 in a few minutes. This is without any other mod's.

I removed the tiny fans on the heat sink. I cannot see them making any significant addition to cooling. I have checked there temp's after driving and they are not any different with / without them. They also blew in the wrong direction / towards the front. So they were blowing the heat forward, which cancelled them out while riding forward.

I previously ran all LED'S except for the rear turn-signals. The Cree Headlamp's have significant flicker at Idle. I goes away at any driving speed above idle. At first I found it annoying but soon got used to it. I thought it may bother other drivers, but that has not turned out to be the case.

Shipping was less than 2 weeks. The units work on AC & DC volts. After a few Question's & reply's from the vendor. I was assured it would not effect warranty or performance.
Warranty would be a laugh for the return shipping to China would cost as much as a new set.

There is enough room to stuff the ballasts in besides the beams and the lamp's fit in no problem, although a tight fit. That is with or with out the Cooling Fans. The fans are about the size of a Nickle in diameter. About 3/32 of that, is fan blade. They were barely turning at Idle speed. Riding down the road makes more flow than that. So I am running fan-less.

I use a Power Relay circuit on My Zuma, so it behaves like a normal Ignition System.
The MVT uses a opposite wiring system than the OE Yamaha system. So A relay is used to accomplish this. I could have used a transistorized system. But this is better, for if the relay or wiring, or battery goes Dead. I only need to remove the Cube relay and it is Back-in run mode.

The performance of the Headlamp's is 3x the output of the 18 Watt / H-4 beams I was previously using. And close to double, that of the 35watt H-4's. They work much better all around, but I needed the focus changed on the alignment, aimed slightly higher up. Not much mind you, but a little elevation proved to be an instant improvement than where they were with the incandescent H-4's aim
.
All in all they are a great improvement on the incandescent beams. How long will they last under Zuma conditions with the AC power & bumpy ride remains to be seen.
But as far as power consumption and performance & output. They have met my expectations completely. Would it reduce usage enough recharge the Battery for Electric starting ?
This is yet to be seen. But judging from my experience, And the 14.0, running voltage, that is is left over. I think it maybe possible.

I am looking into doing a Bridge Rectifier & Capacitor To convert it to DC before the Headlights. I am also looking into a plug in Capacitor, to plug into the fan wiring.
I'll let you know how that works out down the Road.

Dang, that is FANTASTIC. Full electrical is on the drawing board this winter, and this is definitely going to be part of the new layout. Nice find and thanks for the writeup!

Post Re: CREE 50 Watt H-4 LED'S / Zuma 50 2-T / MVT Ignition Sys
I have made some amp checkups recently and found that, on my Jog at 13.2v, the stock headlight draws 33W (both elements are on for high beam, so 66W on high beam), the tail draws 6W on low illumination and an extra 20W while braking, and each turn signal bulbs draws about 10W each (making 20W for a side). I have a ~12W Bosch water pump, only running on low beams, pump on and I'm just under the 55W limit of what the MVT DD ignition can deliver.

This winter I am making a complete LED conversion to hopefully correct the current consumption, or at least improve my ~6h runtime capacity. The entire system still works down at 9V but at that point I get scared because I can't live without the water pump lol.

Very nice! Are you drawing power straight from the battery or are you just using the stock connection?

If your question Was directed to me. I am using the Dual headlight harness. Connected to the standard connections. Which supply's regulated AC to the LED Headlamps. This gives me both high and low beam,s. Same as OEM. Only both Low's are on Low, and both High's are on High.

So from what I'm reading in this thread, this LED system works as a bolt on. It work's properly despite the current being A/C to the headlamps.

I was considering LED headlamps for awhile to minimize draw but strayed away from the idea because of the non-bolt aspect of having to convert from A/C to D/C for most LED's to work properly. Orignially it appeared that I had to purchase a rectifier to convert the current before the headlights to make the LED's work.

You were thinking of getting a capacitor to convert it to D/C just before the headlamps? Have you done that yet? I'd love to do the same if possible. Even if the setup works on A/C, the flicker at low RPM would definitely annoy me and I'm sure the opposing traffic at an intersection as well.

I did some research and found the headlights are using the half wave of the AC. That is the cause of the flicker. I am also using a MVT inner rotor ignition. I do not know how many poles it uses. If I were to run the output through a rectifier it would improve the flicker.

The bike is drained of fuel and the project on hold till spring and warmer weather. It works fine and I quickly got used to the flicker, Which I did not think I would. I have the rectifier and a capacitor, the capacitor is not really needed. When things warm up I'll, try it with the rectifier. Then I will have more to say.

Well Spring has sprung, summer is full on in my neck of the woods. I changed things around over the winter. Ported the Street race some and went with a lighter piston.

It ran awesome but temps were going too high for the type of riding I do. So before I toasted my kit I pulled it off and went to a alloy kit the MHR Hyper race kit & an MHR expansion pipe, 3212799. It works great and with the Idle up to 1950-2000. the flicker is almost non existent.

So if you are idling @ 1900 or above the flicker is, a non issue. Do not know what it would be like on a 6 pole. OEM charging system. But I would bet it is much better.

So the CREE H-4 LED's, get the okay from me. I get twice the light and My battery is always fully charged now!

Forgive my lack of electrical knowledge, but the impression I've gotten from this thread is that these would be an acceptable headlight solution on a stock electrical system (I'm not planning on changing my ignition system anytime soon). I'm hoping to run dual headlights eventually, and don't want to kill my charging system. Granted, my leg has to finish healing from my accident, so it's not like I'll be doing any swaps in the near future.

They use less wattage than regular bulbs, and are much brighter. The only draw back is the flicker@ idle. And I can not comment on that, because I am using an inner rotor ignition. But the fact is, they work on AC because the power ballast converts the voltage to half wave DC. The question to be answered, on the OEM is how bad will they flicker at idle.
