Post Re: Maxi scootin to Sturgis
I have a scooter friend that bought a grey Burgman 650, going from Quebec to western Canada through the States, making a stop to the salt flats for a fun top speed run and see the real top speed challenges. He might get to see the Bidalot team at it for the 50cc record! I dont know when he'll be there however.

Was this friend a French Canadian guy with a beard and do a stop at the Maxi Scoot Rally in Stevenson Washington last year? If So, I think I might have met him there.

We made it home safely tonight, need to get photos and stuff sorted through.

Well, he's a frenchie with a beard :D , but didn't go there last year. He literally bought the Burgman like 2-3 weeks before leaving lol. Also just completed his motorcycle licence for that.

Epic trip to say the least.

Covered 3128 miles in 9 days of riding. We rode through rain, thunder, lightning, 97 degree blistering heat for 2 days straight. I had to take a few days to recoup before even having the energy to write up a ride report. I think the heat and the 97 degree 500 mile day just kicked my burro on Monday. Got home at 10 pm and went to work at 9 the next morning.

We left from here, down through Tacoma to I-90 east went through the Gorge, Spokane, Coeur D'alene ID to Missoula for the first night at least that was the plan. We hit the Idaho pass pretty late coming into Montana, every hotel was full and ended up having to push on through the mountains because every hotel was full in the whole Idaho, western Montana area. Ended up driving through rain, thunderstorms and lightning, hauling burro down the mountain to get away from those storms. Kind of scary stool just sitting there riding along wondering where the next bolt will strike.

So we pull into St Regis Montana after crossing a time zone, I think, its like 12:50 am, we spot a bar and 3 semi trucks parked for the night, along with a few motorhomes, just in this parking lot in town. I say fudge it, and throw up a tent for the night, we have a few drinks, crash in the tent right before the rain starts. Glad we got the tent all set up while it was dry. We pack up at sunrise, gas up and head East.

Montana is beautiful in the daytime. Was a rough night, but day 2 was excellent.

Well ... you'd be crying if it were cold & snow INSTEAD of heat & rain ... nice trip.

You got some elevation (hills) ... how did the scoot do on fuel at that altitude ??

We push on through Montana with very nice weather. Not too cold, not too hot. We push on to Billings for the night, seeing some billboards for hot tubs, we roll in to the Come on Inn. Very nice place after not showering, sleeping in a soggy tent and packing up at 7 am and riding all day. We splurged a little, figured, last night, I slept for free, live a little.

Scooter kept up on the passes and higher elevations, it runs noticeably better here at sea level and with our colder air. I was full throttle alot on those 80 mph freeways with a headwind.

Worst tank of gas i got, the fuel light was flashing after 110 miles of battling headwinds and hills. I typically get 170 miles per tank.

We were probably loaded to the max weight that scooter can handle with 2 of us and probably 80 lbs of gear.

At those altitudes ... the cars/trucks use air pumps (because the air is so thin)

Not so with bikes/scooters ... so, I guess the just burn lots of fuel (run rich).

It's been years since I was at altitude, so I really don't remember how that works. Which is why I asked.

Little mountain pass action.

We left Billings and headed toward Sturgis, stopping at the Little BIghorn Memorial. Custers last stand.

Post Re: Maxi scootin to Sturgis
We packed up and left Sturgis bright and early Friday morning after camping in a wet tent for like 4 days. It was ok, we were pretty drunk most nights. We made the mistake of camping near the outhouses. We woke up several mornings to the sounds of people dry heaving after stepping out of those bathrooms. Was like a rooster at 6 am

So we pack up at 7 am to beat the downtown 5 mile traffic jam of motorcycles. We head towards Wyoming.

We make an out of the way stop at Devils Tower:

Wyoming is amazing. My boss said it was nothing but sage brush for miles, but we both found it really pretty.

We pull into a small town in Wyoming, really needing a break, cup of coffee, I dont think we had eaten yet that day, just rushing to get out of Sturgis before the crowds hit for the day. We pull into a small cafe. hmmmmm, are they open? Oh, judging by the richard and balls written in dust in the front window, I think they are out of business. Lol
