Post Insanely slow, am I just being too easy on it?
Hey guys, I'm a bit new here. I LOVE my new Zuma, I got it from an older gentleman and it's in excellent shape. The only problem is coming from my previous E-ton Beamer 50 with 70cc bore and exhaust....this thing is incredibly slow. I've added the Malossi Variator which actually comes with 8g's which I really thought would help, but it still feels about the same. I have noticed if I really get on it, it picks up pretty good, but I just feel guilty. Do the 4 strokes just require a lot more "grunt" to get going maybe? I always take very good care of my things and I don't want to hurt it, but if this is what they're made for then so be it I guess. All I'm asking is to keep up with traffic which in Charleston SC, is not nearly as bad as other cities.

Lastly, I noticed with my old Beamer, off the start it would take off like a bat outta hell, then kinda even out, but this new Zuma, it just always feels slow, like trying to ride a bike in high gear or something. If anyone has any tips on what to get for acceleration that would be great. I wanted the RC variator because of the forum love for it, but my mechanic really insisted on Malossi and I wanted to stay on his good side, plus I was hoping the 8g's would really help, but no.

Thanks for any feedback guys, love the group!

Chuck

Your choice in variator and roller weights are whats killing your performance. The ideal roller weight is x6 10g rollers or a combination of x3 9g and x3 11g rollers. There are not very many good reviews on the Malossi variator for the Zuma 125 and what may be a highly recommended variator brand for one scoot may not always be true for another scoot.

I have tried a variety of different variators, RRGS, NCY, MRP, Dr. Pully, and TST. I would say the RRGS and the TST have been the best that i have tried.

Now that doesnt mean you should just scrap the Malossi, but you might want to try 10g rollers, cause 8g is way too light.

the TST varriator is all i have known and its a really good one. Johnny is right about the rollers. I would talk to mr. chris and get some stuff from him, he can get you on the right path to feeling more output on the bike then you are feeling right now.

Chis is best contacted through messenger or facebook if you have those. you can email him on his website as well.

best of luck. Lambo

Do keep in mind that a 155bbk upgrade is only 275$ ish... and that will give you more results then anything. but first flirt with temptation on the variator, rollers, and clutch spring.

Thanks a lot guys! But I thought the 8g would just give it even more acceleration and maybe a little less top speed? The 8gs are all that it comes with. And yes I will be pursuing the BBK and while I am at it, I might as well go with the TST as well since this thing is seriously slow, I can't even keep up with traffic, and the speed limit is only 40.

Thanks again guys. I told him I wanted to RC....that's probably what I'll have to do.
