in my experience the original Moto Tassinari VF3 reedvalves will outperform & outlast any reedvalve on the market but they cost $150, they come with a free t-shirt though. LOL

well you don't need to change reeds if you don't ride it like i do most of the time but it should be good to check the reeds every 500kms just to see how the reeds hold up, here's a pic of my poor VL12, it was very good while it lasted.

Image

apart from the viton rubber coating swelling & chunking out the reed tips were totally disintegrated at the corners exposing the ports of the reedcage, when this happens it's time to replace the reeds, this was a brand new VL12 with only less than 500kms of track use, the higher your setup revs the quicker the reeds disintegrate, 14K+ revs is just too much even for CF reeds to handle except for the MT VF3.

Very good to know. With my R1400 exhaust, I should be right around/just below 14k rpm. Where do you get the vf3 from? The only vf3 that I see on the websites is the S6.

Moto Tassinari, you can buy them directly but it costs a bit more but it comes with a free shirt so be sure to demand it when you place an order.

anyway updating this thread with new videos, here's the first one with our friend on his Piaggio Zip SP with a full Polini Evo2 setup.

i'm coaching him on track riding skills & proper body positioning on his scooter, this is his first session but we encountered a problem which turned out to be very serious (cracked crankcase) which ended his day after the 2nd session, i let him ride my scooter though because i'm such a nice guy. ;)

i got no tach but for sure i'm running 14K to 14500 rpm, i have a fully ported MHR Team 6T 70cc kit with 198ex 132trans 124bst port timings, this used to be my drag engine so it's tuned for peak power. running 15g total weight in an SS9 evo vario & 128mm polini rear pulley, malossi red big spring with torsion controller.

I use to have the same problem on the track until I switched to VL16. They are lasting longer than my old VF3's

Snugg are you running a Piaggio engine? Do these need to have the case/intake worked over to fit in a Minarelli?

replaced the engine with new piston & ring, she pulls a bit harder & got back some bottom end power, ended up with 15.3g total & it's running out of gear way before the finish line, problem of blowing out the exhaust gasket came back to haunt me on the last few sessions so i need to get better gaskets for the exhaust port.
