Post Zuma 50F Polini Big Bore Kit + Mods
Hey everyone. I have a 2015 Yamaha Zuma 50F with a little over 5,000 miles on it. I noticed there’s not much info on the web about big bore kits and mods on the 4 Stroke version of the Zuma so here I’ll be letting you all know on my progress with the mods and how well the Zuma takes off after I’ve installed the kit as well as the top speed and other performance parts I’ve installed. This thread is just to let other Zuma 4 stroke owners know the results of a kit installed and the prices for the kit and parts.

I just purchased a Polini 60cc big bore kit (or 70cc cuz each site says a different cc amount for this same kit)
I also purchased a Malossi Racing belt, Malossi Up Gears which are 13/44, Polini Air Filter, and a Polini Variator. All these parts are specifically for the 4 Stroke Zuma whether it be the 50F or 50FX.

The Polini BBK - $249 (usually $359, I got a deal)
Polini Air Filter - $12
Polini Variator - $65
Malossi Racing Belt - $19
Malossi Up Gears - $70

I ordered the kit and all these parts yesterday so they haven’t arrived yet. Once they do I’ll let you guys know. As well as when I get them installed. Then the break in period. Then finally the top speed after full break in. So stay tuned for updates. This thread will probably go for 4-6 months of updates.

Post Re: Zuma 50F Polini Big Bore Kit + Mods
Just finished installing everything except the malossi yellow 1500 contra spring. Was not working well with the new belt. Also didn’t use the 6.9 gram roller weights that the Polini variator came with. It’s cold and snowing right now and freezing out (awesome Springs in New England!) so I haven’t really driven it for more than a couple miles but will definitely be driving it more on warmer days to break in the engine. Gonna do about 150 miles before I go full throttle. I also might try Dr Pulley Sliders in the future. Not sure if I’m gonna do 5g or 6g. They’re expensive to experiment with.
Thanks for checking on my post and stay tuned for updates! :)

File comment: The Malossi Yellow contra spring kept slipping so I didn’t leave it in. Bought a white malossi spring and will install that in the future

Thanks for offering this. I've been curious about how these 4T versions might do if they're improved and tuned well. Will be keeping an eye on the progress.

Post Re: Zuma 50F Polini Big Bore Kit + Mods
So I took the Zuma for a 10 mile ride today. It was about 50 degrees so not the warmest. I’m pretty disappointed in the performance of the scooter after I installed all these parts. It feels like it has a slower take off and won’t go above 30 mph on flat at full throttle. I understand this is the break in period but it was only going 25 at half throttle so I wanted to see what it could do at full throttle. It also stalls out when I stop for a few seconds. It also doesn’t like to start up right away. I have to hold the start up button for 10 second when it used to be 1 second.
It’s performing worse than when it was stock. :gonk:

Not sure what to do right now. Either take out the Polini air filter or buy a fuel controller but they’re $200 and that’ll have to wait till next month to get. I’m assuming it’s not getting enough fuel and that’s why it can’t go above 30 on flat or it’s getting too much air from the new filter and Polini air snorkel. Ugh this is gonna be a stressful build. I’m hoping for tips but no one is on this forum anymore so it’s gonna be all trial and error.

I'm wondering if exhaust is your problem. If you're pushing more fuel into the cylinder, but the exhaust isn't able to escape fast enough after it's spent, you're bike isn't going to perform well. Don't know much about the 4T versions, but I imagine the stock exhaust isn't designed for strong ventilation. Especially seeing as one of the reasons Yamaha went 4T was because of the hyper restrictive emissions standards in places like California.

I don’t think I’m pushing too much fuel I think I’m not pushing enough for the 66cc engine to need to perform correctly. I think it’s the new air filter that’s causing it to not perform correctly or not enough fuel is getting to the engine. I hope it’s just the air filter though. I don’t want to buy a fuel tuner for $200

Post Re: Zuma 50F Polini Big Bore Kit + Mods
So I now know why the scooter is running like crap. My mechanic didn’t put the fuel pressure regulator that the Polini kit came with into the scooter. So it’s been running with the stock fuel injector  now it all makes sense. I found it with my original parts that came out of it. Gotta call him up and have him put it in. It’s gonna be 66 and sunny this Saturday so then I can finally break her in and I’m sure she’ll be running like a dream :awesome:
I’ll let you guys know how it goes

UPDATE:
Put the new fuel regulator in that cane with the Polini BBK and she is running great now. Way better acceleration compared to before and before stock as well. Climbs up steep hills at 30 mph and I was only a little over half throttle when before I had to be full throttle to go up a steep hill. I also GPS 45.3 mph on flat road but pulled off the throttle because I’m still breaking the new engine in. Should be able to do 50 on flat once it’s all broken in. I burried the speedo down a hill but let off the throttle again cuz a car pulled out in front of me. I was doing probably around 52-54 mph and still not hitting the rev limiter.
I’ll let you guys know how it is once she’s all broken in but for now I’m pretty happy with the results.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Likewise I've not read much about the newer 4T Zumas and I'm interested in adding more to the old knowledge bank.

Post Re: Zuma 50F Polini Big Bore Kit + Mods
UPDATE:
So as I was driving the Zuma today I was going up a hill and suddenly it lost all acceleration and just died on me. When I started it back up and gave it gas it died again. So I was like “oh great what’s wrong with it now” and called my mechanic to pick me up. 10 minutes later I read some posts online to see how other people got it to run again or what was wrong and a guy posted “did you check the gas to see if you’re out?” Doh! I’m an idiot! Didn’t even think to look cuz I put $2 in about 90 miles ago. I called my mechanic and let him know it could just be out of gas. There was a small puddle of gas in the tank when I checked but I guess that little amount doesn’t reach the fuel line. They brought me gas, low and behold she started right up. Boy did I feel stupid :awesome:
But anyway I’ve put about 120 miles on her since the new kit has been install. Gonna do about 30 more before I change the oil and then drive it like I stole it lol. Also will be adding 5.5g sliders and new 1000 contra spring as well and clutch springs

Here’s a screenshot of my downhill speed. It was a pretty long hill but I never hit the Rev Limiter. Would be awesome if I could hit 55 on flat :awesome:

Dude that's so awesome! I have a 2015 Vino 50 and desperately want more speed out of it. I was hoping you had the Fuel injected model, and it turns out you do. You've given me hope that I too can enjoy a realistic speed to actually drive this thing on roads. So what is your top speed now that you've completely broken her in? I was looking at a $400 70cc kit that includes a fuel tuner. I don't think it comes with an injector. It sounds like your Polini kit is a good and much cheaper alternative.

Any idea how much worse your fuel economy is now?

I chose the Polini kit because it came with the fuel pressure regulator. I didn’t want to deal with a tuner and there’s a 75cc kit out there for $450 but it doesn’t come with a fuel tuner. There’s no 70cc kit yet, though. I only put about 250 miles on mine and not sure if it’s 100% broken in yet. I heard 600 miles for a break in period and it’s like 47 mph on flat but I have 6.9g rollers so I’m gonna try sliders and Michelin Bopper 130/90-10 tires next with it. My fuel is around 100 mpg when before the kit it was around 120 mpg so it’s not too bad. I want mine to hot 50 mph on flat road. So far I haven’t gone past 55 down hill but haven’t gone down many hills. Rev limiter with probably kick in around 58-60 mph
