Post Re: Here's a list of available Zuma 125 tires.
dunlop has many types of compounds used. unfortunately i haven't found those specs for scoot tires.

i had a softer compound tire when i first moved to phoenix from the seattle region. while the tire did great in the nw, the very hot asphalt temps in phoenix just ate the rubber in a short amount of time. i switched to a higher mileage dunlop with no problem.

except for the back end sliding a couple a times until i got used to the harder compound that is. :D i knew the limits of bike and tire A, but tire B almost had me into the onramp wall headed to the freeway.

the kenda IS a rock. hard as hell and slides taking simple turns. don't remember how many times i had the scoot sliding around turns, but it didn't take long to upgrade the tire to something better. the SL36 kicked butt on grip, but didn't last long. around 3k miles and it was done.

the fronts came in yesterday. the gts23's.

the dunlop came in today. oh yeah, it's a softer compound but a bit narrower than the fronts. i'll have to test some corners (and top end) with this baby later. :D

it's the tt93

Tire Size OD - mm
Front
120/70/12 476
100/80/12 471
100/90/12 486
110/70/12 459
110/80/12 481

Rear
130/70/12 487
100/90/12 486
110/90/12 506
120/80/12 501
120/90/12 521
130/80/12 513
140/70/12 501

for the cannonball, been doing some research on tires. this site was very helpful. can't copy the spreadsheet in, but shouldn't be hard to follow. top size of each column is the stock tire size.
http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php

since others have already used the 140/70, we know that fits. but larger than that may not clear.

some of these tire sizes may not exist, but it's good reference.

Can you even get that in the states? I've heard of Heidenau tires, but I've never seen that one anywhere.

Can someone point me towards the most aggressive Dual Sport tires available in the US that'll fit on a Zuma? I'm looking for something Streetable and stable, but a good deal of chunk for offroad riding. I don't mind being outside of OEM Spec's as long as I'm not rubbing.

I recently got the michelin power pure sc installed in oem sizes and I have to say they are amazing tires. Should aftermarket tires be inflated to oem spec?

What the heck is with these OEM Kenda tires? I currently have 350 miles on my scoot and noticed that my rear tire is low on air. I come to find out that I have a staple wire on the tire.....just an office-grade staple wire not those heavy duty staples.

Should I just plug it and call it a day?

Also, I saw these 100/60-12 low profile tires at Drow and Steady Garage. Anybody rolling with these here? Yes, I'd probably feel more bumps but would like to benefit from the lowered seat height.

Lesson #1 :: OEM Kenda tires are intended for dual surface use.

Most any aftermarket tire INTENDED FOR ROAD USE will roll better (and also cost more).

Lesson #2 :: Are you sure that's where the leak is coming from ?? A STAPLE ??

Have you tried to fill the tire with air and see if it holds ??

You really KNOW that you have a puncture ??

You may want to check again for another leak somewhere.

Plugging the tire all depends on where the puncture is ... tread/sidewall.

And I would always plug form the inside IF I PLUGGED IT.

Considering that you aren't going to be repairing the puncture yourself ... maybe NEW TIRES would be the right thing to do.

DON'T TOSS YOUR OLD TIRES ... there are a few guys here who would probably make an offer for them.

Below is the culprit  (as is when I took it out)

Image

Yes that was the source of the leak since bubbles were appearing when I spat on the tire. All it took was a fifth of an inch. I plugged it and it seems to hold pressure.

----------

Anyhow I have now replaced my front and rear tires to lower profile street tires.

F - 100/60-12
R - 110/70-12

Also had a puncture from a small trim nail. Tried to plug, but isn't holding air (maybe from coming off the rim on the one side?). So I'm looking to replace the rear tire only (me poor) and was looking for suggestions on an upgrade that will also work well with the stock Kenda staying on the front. I'm a bigger guy and often end up riding in the rain. Durability is more important than grip for me. Not sure how high they go, but about $80 is my max. Thanks for any help, zero tire knowledge here.
