Post Intermittent fuel pump problem (driving me crazy!)
Hello ZF people!

I have a 2011 Yamaha BWS 125 (essentially, a Zuma but for Europe) and I have an intermittent problem where it’ll start fine, I’ll ride somewhere, turn off the engine, and then when I go to drive off again it won’t start. Then, maybe an hour later it will magically start again.

Now, I think its fuel pump related – as I can’t hear the fuel pump when I turn the key when it won’t start and I’m aware that this model has had fuel pump related issues in the past.

A garage wanted £449 ($584) to buy and fit a new fuel pump – which is extortionate – so I’ve purchased the part myself. Would it be easy to fit? Or shall I get a (different) garage to do it for me? Additionally I’ve read that someone solved a similar issue by replacing the spark plug wire caps – could it be this?

Any help would be very much appreciated fellow Zuma/BWS riders.

Thanks in advance.

Parge

at least here you can get fuel pumps online under $100
its very easy to change yourself with basic tools

might want to look into doing it yourself

Ah yeah, so I managed to pickup a replacement for £60.

I don't have any tools at all sadly so will probably have to get a garage to fit it for me!

Only tools you need to change the fuel pump would be a 1/4" metric socket set with ratchet, phillips screwdriver, allen wrench set (metric), and torx allen wrench set. Maybe $50 at the most for those tools..

Theres a step by step here:

And you can download the manual here:

the cost for the tools would probably be 1/3 the cost of having a shop do it
and you wouldn't have to wait a day or two for the shop to do the job

Just to update you all.

I bought a replacement OEM pump from ebay (£60) and had it fitted by a garage for £150. Total cost £210. Not great, but certainly not terrible, and now I have a bike that works! Yay.

Thanks
