Oregon Scooter Clubs

I can't speak for southern Oregon, but up in the Portland, Oregon-Vancouver, Washington area, there are a few scooter clubs you can check out. Most of these people meet at bars or micro-brews, but many just meet to ride and you can hook up with someone for a short group ride fairly easily. This list has been compiled August 6, 2010, and by the time you read this, it could be obsolete. Best of luck.

• The Oregon Scooter Club is probably the best organized club to join. Their web site is very active and friendly. The OSC meets all the time and has lots of well-organized rides and events. They're also big about taking advantage of the Team Oregon safety training classes.

• St. Johns Scooter Club is based out of Saint Johns, Oregon (well, North Portland) and welcomes all scooter enthusiasts. They don't have a web site of their own but are on Yahoo Groups which is sort of like an old-fashioned Internet mailing list. Go here for more information.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StJSC/

They have a big first Monday of each month ride and weekly informal Wednesday evening rides. St.JSC is now on Facebook:

• Portland Scooter Rider's Meet-up Group meets up with the St. Johns Scooter Club for their Voodoo Donuts Run on the first Sunday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the northeast Voodoo Donuts at 1501 NE Davis (off of Sandy Blvd.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

• Twist and Play (or T&P) is mostly a vintage Italian scooter club. Although their web site isn't as up-to-date, they now are featured on Twitter. They meet Tuesday nights at Shanghai Tunnel (211 SW Angeny St. and 2nd Ave.). Contact: info@twistnplay.com
http://twistnplay.com

• Scoot & Destroy is a Vancouver, Washington Lambretta-based scooter club. Sorry, no Zumas.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vancouver ... 230?ref=ts

• Red Velvet Death Machines is an all-girls, all scooter club based out of Portland.
http://www.redvelvetdeathmachines.com/

• Puddle Cutter PDX is mostly a moped-based group but they welcome everybody on their Wednesday night meetings at Club 21 (2035 NE Glisan St. near 21st Ave. and Sandy Blvd.)
http://puddlecutters.net/

• The Orphan's Gang is a group of vintage two-wheeled vehicle enthusiasts. Their web site hasn't been updated much but their forum is very active.
http://www.orphansgang.com/index.html

• Los Gatos Gordos, yeah, that's right, the fat cats is a scooter club based out of Seattle and Portland with more of a latin flavor. However, this club is for classic scooters (pre 1980) and that doesn't include the Zuma.
http://www.losgatosgordos.com/

• Top Dead Center is a very active Eugene, Oregon based scooter club. However, they're strictly for riding and restoring vintage Vespa, Lambretta and other steel-bodied, manual transmission scooters. For more information contact: info@topdeadcentersc.com

Oh, also; if you live in the Portland, Oregon area, and you'd like to go on a short ride with another Zuma owner, why don't you send me a PM and maybe we can make arrangements to get together some time.

I'm not an expert rider (I'm still a newbie) but I would really enjoy cruising around with you. Take care.

Hi Ed Brew-Head,

I actually live in Milwaukie, which is close enough to be S.E. Portland. StJSC meets most of the time at Voodoo Donuts off of Sandy Blvd. and that shouldn't be that far away from where you live.

I'm going to be away this weekend, but if you'd like to go on a ride some time after, PM me.

I need to add this club to my list:

• The RuckStars Scooter Club is a Honda Ruckus scooter club, but they let other scooters join them and they’re a very active scooter group and go on many rides when most Portland scooter clubs fear to tread.

meets at Voodoo Doughnuts, Too!
1501 N.E. Davis Street (near NE Sandy Blvd. and NE 15th Ave)
on Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m.

Their FaceBook page is:

Post Re: Oregon Scooter Clubs
I just thought that I would give you an update to what I wrote almost two
years ago. A lot has changed, but also, I'm a little more experienced
and have attended some group rides enough to have developed more
of an opinion on this.

I don't mean to sound uppity or to put down any other scooter clubs.
Lord knows that scooter riders all have their own opinions. Plus, many
scooter clubs specialize with a specific model of scooter. This is a good
thing in that a club might give special attention and support to the
model of
scooter that they want to specialize in. However, if you have a 50 cc
Zuma, you really want to know what scooter club to check out and not
waste any of your time with.

For instance, the Oregon Scooter Club is a great resource; they're very
friendly and helpful, and they are trying to encourage safe riding habits
through the Team Oregon program. However, I've noticed that the
majority of the scooter riders are Maxi Scooter riders and someone like
a Zuma rider isn't going to be able to keep up with most of their group
rides unless they specify 50cc-friendly events.

The Ruckstars although they specialize in Honda Ruckuses, they do
invite non-Ruckus riders to join in their group rides. They seem very
50cc-friendly, but a lot of them have souped-up their Ruckuses with
100cc engines so it might get harder and harder for you to keep up
with them.

I'm presently very active in the St. Johns Scooter Club. To me, they are
a very welcoming group that is highly 50cc-friendly. Their group rides
are mostly on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. (although they have
quite a few weekend rides that I enjoy). Lately they've been meeting
up at the Signal Station Pizza that is a converted old inter-city gas
station located on 8302 North Lombard Street in downtown St. Johns,
Oregon.

They're Facebook page is here:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/St-Johns-Scooter-Club/108856439248

and again, if you want to get onto their Yahoo! Groups message board,
go here and click on the "Join" button.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StJSC/

Thanks a lot.

Post Re: Oregon Scooter Clubs
I would like to add yet another Portland scooter club to this listing. The Portland Scooter
Social Club is an offshoot of the Oregon Scooter Club, only this club is very 50cc-friendly.

They meet at various restaurants and go for nice long group rides. Most of their rides are
on the weekends, which works really well for me personally. Like the St. Johns Scooter
Club, they're very welcoming and fun-loving.

The Portland Scooter Social Club is on FaceBook:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/PortlandScooterSocialClub/

and are on the Meetup.com web site:

http://www.meetup.com/PortlandScooterSocialClub/

If you join up, please say hi. :)

Probably not 50cc friendly for some of the rides, but Im thinking about attending this maxi scoot rally/campout at the fairgrounds in southern Wa, just across the Hood River from Oregon.
