Post subject:  3100 mile scooter trip to Sturgis SD

We pull into a bar between Gillette and Casper grab a red bull, look at our route, and decide that 648 miles in a day to Salt Lake City wasnt going to happen. We ended up taking 2 days to cross Wyoming, each day on the road, it seems like we had a harder and harder time just doing 300 miles in a day.

We take a look at the road atlas that the bartender let us borrow. We decide to cut South and head for Rawlins. Seemed like a big enough town to have a few hotels.

We stop at a rest stop for a quick break. Ends up being Independance Rock. Very cool stop and a quick history lesson. A giant rock formation that early settlers and pioneers heading west would try and make it to before Independance day to get over the mountains before winter hits. The more we travel this route the more we learn that we are following the Oregon trail route that early settlers used. I spent most of the trip imagining what it would have been like to cross this way on horseback or covered wagon

At night we would get into the hotel and I would be googling the places we had been. Good times.

Riding through Wyoming listening to country music on the bluetooth helmet, I was thinking that there isn't a thing in the world I would rather be doing that this, right here. It was a scooter zen that I hadnt felt since riding the rented Piagio Mp3 up highway 1 North of San Francisco.

I love trains, told my wife to get pics of every one we crossed paths with. She got most of these pics from the back of the scoot while doing freeway speeds.

We keep following I-80 into Salt Lake City that evening.

Miles and miles and miles of highway tick by. This has been our longest trip ever on 2 wheels. Each day we have less stamina to keep pushing on. We find it hard to go 60 miles without making an excuse to stop.

Don't remember if that was Southwestern Wyoming or crossing into Utah.

Some food at the Red Rock Brewery. Good food and good beer.

We ate, had a beer, hit up the bar next door, the Poplar. Some intersting beards in Utah, it was like Duck Dynasty lol.

We got a good nights sleep, had the continental breakfast and headed north for the day.

Holy crap. Semi trucks, how i hate you. The rolling road blocks, the 100+ mph wall of wind when you pass one going 80 mph.

We tried to shoot for about 450 miles per day on average. A few were less, think our shortest day was 300 miles. Longest was about 566 miles and a ferry ride. That sh!t hurt.

Idaho is fuggin hot this time of year. It hovered around 97 on my dash guage for the last 2 days of the trip, coming through Idaho, eastern Oregon, and Yakima. We resorted to soaking some bandanas around the neck while we rode to cool off. It worked great until they dried and became an insulator. Fuggin hot. Very nice though. Really enjoyed all the farm lands.

We make it to Twin Falls Idaho. One of the things we really wanted to see on the way home. Its really tough to stop and check out the tourist attractions when you have to do 400 miles that day before nightfall. I decided to take our time checking stuff out even if it meant a near 12 hour day on the bike.

You bought a touring bike to trailer it around, brilliant.

Yep. The modern pirates never fail to amuse.

Ended up driving through rain, thunderstorms and lightning, hauling burro down the mountain to get away from those storms. Kind of scary stool just sitting there riding along wondering where the next bolt will strike.

Something to keep in mind for your next road trip:
