Post ChuckD420's 2003 Zuma
This is my 2003 Zuma, that I bought for $300 at the end of june this year. Had 279 miles on it when I got it and now has a little over 1,500 miles. So far I've taken both of the reflectors of the front(one was already busted from where the previous owner laid it down), took off the front fender and the little mudflap on the back, took both passenger footrests off(wasn't trying to pay almost $50 each to replace them), took off the stickers on the side covers, did the dual headlight mod, and installed a Leo Vince ZX with the included springs and the 3/3 weight combo. I've had the speedo pegged on a flat a few times since I put the pipe on, no GPS though, so not sure what the exact top speed is.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pics.

Once I get the money I plan to install:

70cc Polini Corsa BBK
aftermarket HPC crankshaft (haven't decided which one yet)
19mm carb
aftermarket variator
Yasuni pipe (not sure which one would be best with this BBK)
JDM taillight
Pirelli SL26s

I would also like to do the naked handlebar conversion and new gauge setup soon and get aerox wheels for it. The wheels would probably be last since it's gonna cost a bit.

Would love to see video of the speedo pegged on flat ground, or by pegged you mean at 40mph

The needle will actually round out a little past 40mph. I might try to get some video of it this weekend.

Typically "pegged" means as far as it will go in the speedo...so the bottom corner, well past 40mph, is "pegged". 40 is just the biggest number they put on the guage.

thats why there is no way a stock 50 engine/carb/tranny can peg the gauge, maybe 40-41 but thats about it on flat ground unless the speedo is way off, but the gps can confirm

Sorry about the confusion guys, I had no idea the needle went that far past 40mph. I'm still gonna try to get a top speed vid this weekend, let's see how far past 40mph I can get the needle to go. I always back off once I hit just past 40, because I don't want to get pulled over, so I'm not sure how fast I can actually go.

My '08 with the stock bore would easily go faster than 41 after I installed the ZX, but the '08 and up have taller gearing, and can go faster than the '02-'05 models.

Well, I shot some video of some top speed runs this weekend, I made these attempts on a stretch of road probably an 1/8 mile long. It was pretty bumpy and there was a heavy crosswind, so I wasn't able to get it all the way up to speed. I'll try again next weekend if the winds aren't as strong. I also need to figure out a way to mount my camera so I don't have to hold the damn thing while I do this, that's a PITA.

I just did the carb mod to my stock 08' Zuma, and can reach 40-mph+. I took my son for a ride and surprisingly we still hit 40-mph.

It took us 3 tenths of a mile to hit 40 mph flat road little wind, two up. Thats with a stock 08' the only thing we have did to it has been the carb mod.

Update

I've repainted my ZX flat black Rustoleum BBQ & Stove paint. While I had the pipe off I took the badge off the silencer and turned it around so you can't see the rivets (I left them, because I did,t want to have holes in it.) I stripped the paint off the bracket, and just left it bare, since it's aluminum and shouldn't rust. Also got my clear taillight lenses put on my JDM fender, along with the LED bulbs for the taillight and turn signals.

those taillights look really good with the silver paint

why do the zumas (american) have the speedo so close to the top speed? the bws (canadian) speedos go up to 80 km/h which is 50mph

Thanks. I'm not sure about the speedo, but it would be nice to have it read higher, that way you would know how fast you were going.
