Post Re: Storz 2005 Bws Build
Hey Spaz I've got a question for you....
So my stock 05 seems more sluggish then normal these days, i was thinking about it today and was thinking I've been running a stock 2008 bws exhaust for about 4years now and have never cleaned it (between 9-11,000kms).... Any symptoms for a plugged exhaust? my bike seems to take off ok unto about 40km then seems to really struggle from 40-60.... seems to have a hard time getting the revs up passed 40km. Any thoughts ? i recently did the belt/rollers/plug/air filter/gear oil I'm leaning towards the exhaust is plugged up maybe?

Post Re: Storz 2005 Bws Build
I've never had any exhaust for that long so I can't really say for sure, but cleaning out certainly can't hurt it.

You also mentioned that it has a problem from 40 to 60kmh, which always makes me think of the torque drive when dealing with an 05 and older.

Try cleaning out the pipe first though and see what happens.

When it gets to a certain speed it like shifts and lugs. It's pretty obvious when it's doing it.

You'll see once you get it apart if the grooves are damaged. It should be pretty noticeable.

Here is a way to get the clutch off the torque drive if you don't have an impact, or the right socket:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR5JSq2VdYU

Here is another video that Brent made showing the differences between the dual angle groove, which is similar to the 05 and older Zuma's and the straight groove of the newer Zuma's. It'll help you understand how they operate.

A stock replacement pin is fine.
If you got new reeds, which you should have done, make sure that your gasket is still good, or get a new one. I would use gray or red permatex as well.

I'm so anal about doing a leak test on mine that I will do them even if it's because I've taken the intake off (to replace the reeds) and of course when splitting cases.
So, I would say make yourself a leak tester and do it. Here are several to look at and mine, which I think is the simplest, is at the bottom.
http://49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/5 ... ester-ways

There's many video's on youtube on how to do a leak test on 2 strokes.

Good luck. When I went through my search about 3 months ago, there were none to be found unless you want to buy a new one which is pretty pricey. I posted here and on two different FB Zuma forums and no one had one. Even tried eBay.

The general consensus was that it didn't make that big of a difference, so I just took mine apart to clean and lube everything.

Brian, I'm going to have to politely disagree with you and say that on modified Zuma's, they do make a difference.

I'd say use yours for now and save up for the Over Range, because there's no sense in buying just a quality torque driver when you can buy the entire setup for just a little more money.
