He has the 2009 pipe so that should be moved up to the top of order so he can get rid of that junky stock pipe.
Tune to the pipes power band and launch and as a last step put on the kit .
I was just trying to have him go slow so he loses track of what effects and if he comes across a issiue he retraces that step.
You are right he would be doing more chops if he does kit first if jets to the pipe the kit wont be any change except maybe raising the needle one notch richer.

From what I read I don't think I have an adjustable Needle.

Post Re: Little help with my shopping cart.
You can shim it with a thin washer that will raise your needle that is how to fix the non adjustable needle.
Most kits need you to raise the needle it is in the instructions for the athen, airsal, malossi .
The reason is you spend more time on the needle than wide open because the kits raise port timings so you get more rpms so your cruising speed is higher .
Before all my mods 9000 rpms was about my peak and I went 40 mph now at 9000 rpms Im at 50 mph and I cruise easily at 40 .
The big block alone for each kit added 10% to my top speed .
There also fix it kits at zumarus

Guess I need to start a tool checklist, is there anything out of the ordinary I should make sure I have? Pretty sure my 1/4 hex to square drive impact adapters are going to come in handy.

I have torque wrenches a 5-80lbs and one that goes to 200+lbs... Plus the usual stuff.

I think I read I need a 1" socket for doing the clutch torque spring my set likely doesn't go that big.

Here is a good thread with a tools list

i needed a 41mm socket for clutch looks like you are 38mm
If you dont have a imapct wrench
you can buy a variator holder tool instead so you can use a regular socket
www.scootertuning.ca/en/clutch-variator ... ontal.html
Buzetti also makes one
I use this more than a impact

Thanks good read! Looks like I need to order a socket, but have everything else. I can't seem to find that variator tool in the great white North... I even looked online for a dxf so I could cut one at work (we have a co2 laser) assuming I can get it done with the strap wrench though.

I am traveling so i cannot help you with measurements on the tool ,it just hooks on to the starter clutch on the variator and locks it into place and then all you do is bolt it to the transmission . If you ever have to change the belt when you are out on the road it is easier to carry this then a impact for traveling tool kit

You can also get a piston stop thing which prevents the crank from turning. It is screwed into place where the spark plug would usually go.

Post Re: Little help with my shopping cart.
I have used a cord threaded into the spark plug hole in a pinch to stop the piston from moving .
I just took about a foot of clothesline and put one end in and kept threadinfg it in and then the piston compresses at top dead center and could not turn over .
So I could turn the crank nut off the variator .
The biggest proble with a piston stop vs a variator holding tool .
If you really torque on it and slip you can replace a variator fan for 30 bucks if you f up the piston or connectng rod you have a major rebuild.
It is only 30 lbs of torque so it is not that hard to overtighten .

Post Re: Little help with my shopping cart.
So I contacted the store because my order hadn't shipped yet asked if I could add a few things to ship with the order. They gave me a code to avoid extra shipping charges.

I wanted to have at least one sparkplug on hand and get a new air filter (for stock box) and was going to order a piston stop. Low and behold they have a variator holding tool in stock so I scooped up one.

Then I decided I needed some F1 mirrors a flywheel spoiler and Amber reflectors for the rear light assembly while I was at it.

And then I did an Amazon shopping spree...

I bought
- really small tach,
- digital speedo that has all the indicators and tach (says it's universal but a direct fit for non fuel injected bws125 it was cheap would be cool if it works, will be a fun re wire job),
- 1157 turnsignal/running light sockets (for installing in the rear brake light)
- 38mm impact socket
- set of snap ring pliers

I ma considering going to naked bars so i would need a digital speedo so keep us informed if it works .

Here is a video from scooterswapshop on port chamfering.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIwSRKbCmtc

I did not have a videoo exhaust port smoothing but it is pretty simple
The exhaust port is the other area you want to smooth out for better flow start with 100 grit and work your way down to 400 grit for a mrror like finish.
This will raise your peak rpm and power by letting it flow better and mildly change port timing .
Dont go crazy and take off a bunch (under 1 mm is ok 2mm is way too much ) it is best if you do it by hand in my opinion to void over zealousness with power tools .

So it all arrived today all appears to be good however it's not the same belt I ordered... Fair bit of sticker swag in the box.

Think I will start getting a build thread going.

Yasuni pipe and Malossi bbk? I'm thinking closer to $900.
